What if reality doesn’t begin with matter, but with memory? What if the habits of thought, behavior, and biology are not stored solely in your brain or body, but in invisible energetic blueprints that surround and shape you?
This is the heart of morphic field theory, a concept developed by biologist Rupert Sheldrake. It’s a way of understanding the world not just through physical cause and effect, but through resonance, pattern, and energetic inheritance. In my latest YouTube video, I explore how this model applies to everything from personal growth to creative practice, and how it can radically change the way you engage with reality.
Let’s dive in.

Most models of reality start with matter. With things. With objects. What is solid is assumed to be primary. Form creates function. Brain produces thought.
But what if that’s backward? What if the field comes first?
That’s the foundation of Rupert Sheldrake’s theory of morphic fields. Not metaphor. Not poetic language. A literal, invisible informational structure that shapes matter, behavior, and even thought, based on resonance and repetition.
Sheldrake calls it morphic resonance. The idea is this: once something happens, it becomes easier for it to happen again, not just for you, but for others too. Habits. Biological forms. Emotional reactions. Cultural memory. These do not live solely in the body or the brain. They are held in fields that surround and inform those bodies.
So what exactly is a morphic field?
It is a non-physical blueprint. A pattern. An organizing force that exists beyond the material world but directly influences it. Not in a symbolic or abstract way, but in a functional one. The field guides the form, not the other way around.
This applies to plants, animals, thoughts, and even social systems. Take the shape of a fern or the way a spider spins its web. These are not calculated acts. They are remembered. The memory doesn’t exist in the organism alone. It exists in the morphic field, a kind of species-level habit that each individual tunes into.
But it doesn’t stop at biology.
There are morphic fields for belief. For trauma. For success. For addiction. These are not just psychological categories. They are energetic structures. You enter them, you reinforce them, or you escape them. But they exist whether or not you are aware of them.
If you’ve ever walked into a room and felt anxiety even though no one was speaking, you felt a field.
If you’ve ever struggled with a belief that seemed irrational but emotionally overwhelming, you were inside a field.
And if you’ve ever changed environments and suddenly found it easier to think, to create, or to rest, you experienced the shift in field.
Here’s the critical part: we are not passive in this.
You are a receiver, yes. But you are also a broadcaster.
You emit energy. You participate in fields. You reinforce them or create them through repetition. Every thought, every posture, every environment you surround yourself with is part of your morphic broadcasting system.
This is why willpower fails when the field remains unchanged. You can repeat affirmations all day, but if the space you live in, the people you interact with, and the habits you unconsciously repeat all broadcast the same low-resonance pattern, then the field will override your new thought. Not because you are weak, but because the structure is stronger.
So how do you change it?
First, recognize that most of what you struggle with is not personal. You are moving through fields that were set in motion by your family, your culture, your past experiences. These fields operate like inherited programs. You did not choose them, but you can choose to stop reinforcing them.
Second, be intentional about what you expose yourself to. Every book you read, every voice you hear, every room you are sitting in. These are energetic inputs. They shape your alignment. Over time, they change your resonance. Choose wisely.
Third, become a conscious broadcaster. Use symbol. Sound. Ritual. Posture. Repetition. All of these are ways to emit a stronger, clearer signal that aligns with the field you want to live in. You don’t destroy the old field. You build a stronger one that overrides it.
This is not instant. It is repetition. It is rhythm. It is the quiet, daily act of tuning your entire being to a new set of patterns until that pattern stabilizes into its own field.
Let’s take this further.
Morphic fields don’t only exist around people or habits. They exist around ideas. Around archetypes. Around values like justice, fear, power, and grace.
These are not abstract. They are energetic structures.
When you step into a deep ritual or devotional act, you are entering a larger field. You are not creating all the energy alone. You are sinking into an existing container.
This is why rituals work even when you don’t fully understand them. If the structure is old and coherent, the field already knows what to do. You are plugging into something ancient.
As chaos magicians, we often seek novelty. We like to break structures, test limits, rewrite codes. But morphic fields remind us that structure matters. That repetition, rhythm, and pattern create actual influence.
If you are not conscious of the field you are in, you are being shaped by it.
It does not matter how intelligent you are, or how powerful your intent may be. If the morphic field around you is filled with fear, lack, or confusion, then that will become the dominant influence.
You must shift the field first.
And how do you know it is shifting?
You will feel less resistance. You will begin to receive different feedback. Ideas that once felt impossible will begin to feel obvious. People will respond to you differently. Your body will start to relax in situations that used to trigger you.
These are all signs that the field is realigning.
So the next time you feel stuck, don’t just change your mindset. Don’t just force a new goal.
Ask yourself: What field am I inside? And if it no longer serves you, begin the process of transmission.
Change your rituals. Change your space. Change your inputs.
You are not just a thinker. You are a signal tower.
And reality, over time, bends toward the field you stabilize.
You’re not just reacting to reality. You’re shaping it, moment by moment, field by field.
If this stirred something in you, take it seriously. Examine your space. Look at your patterns. Be ruthless in choosing what you surround yourself with, and intentional in what you send out. The field responds.
